CEO @ Peach Health Asia | Two decades of successful experience bringing digital health, pharma and medtech companies into Asia

Over the last few years I've worked to license and bring a number of digital health and #digitaltherapeutics companies to Asia. Personally I found the deal related contrasts and similarities to be very interesting when compared to the pharma and medtech licensing I worked on in the past. Digital health companies looking at international market expansions face a number of unique challenges. These challenges to a degree have shaped the current digital health landscape seen in the Asia, creating a market that is dominated by local rather than international digital health products: - Language adaption: this is a no-brainer since the region is home to multiple languages (often multiple languages per country). The time and cost for any translation and context localization need to factored into any digital health partnership - Patient Data Management: Most countries in Asia require local patient data hosting since patient data cannot be sent overseas. So some kind of local product hosting is a must. An additional complexity is how to manage digital products that work by processing data through a central home server since patient data will be stored in local servers. One solution is to de-identify the data before it is sent to out of country to a central server. There of course is nothing like this in pharma deals since selling and marketing drugs does not usually involve engaging patients! - Fit to market modifications: it is extremely difficult to adapt products that have been tailored to a specific target market and clinic workflow. As a basic requirement data interoperability needs to be addressed. It is more challenging to re-designing a product to fit new clinical workflows, these are likely to vary across countries and customer groups and will require extensive re-design work to create a product-market fit.- SaaS vs virtual services: In the US a number of the larger patient facing digital health products work by merging digital products with physical and other resources to create a service (Kaia & Hinge are good examples). This is hard to scale in international markets since the 'physical and other services' need to be re-created. SaaS models might work better in this context depending on the local market conditions. Outside all of this one of the biggest challenges faced when expanding to international markets is the limited number of deals done so far by most parties, and this inexperience adds to the challenges needed to structure and complete deals. Peach Health Asia was set up to address these challenges by offering patient facing digital health companies an easier route into the Asia markets by creating commercial models that addresses a number of the challenges raised above. #digitalhealth #digitalhealthcare

Unleashing the power of design, data and AI in healthcare

🤩 Wow! We of course thought there would be value in creating a #designinhealthcare community. We were honestly speechless with the amount of reactions we received. Jiska de Wit Heleen Engelen Jeanine Kierkels We decided to do two things. 1️⃣ Set up a smaller Dutch group with strict criteria: you have a design background and work or worked as direct (freelance) employee for a healthcare organization. In this group we will drive the impact of design in the much needed transformation in our Dutch system. This initiative is referred to as #designindezorg.2️⃣ Create a wider and international group with design professionals (or related) that work in/for/with healthcare organizations. So consultants, people in medtech and of course in other health systems are welcome to join. Here we can share knowledge, inspiration, frustration and build a network. If you fit the first group drop us a message. If you fit the second you can join the public #designinhealthcare group.

I’ve coined a new term and role —The Design Clinician*.What is a Design Clinician, and why is it necessary? In healthcare, there's often a gap between clinicians and the designers who create services, spaces, or products for the clinical environment. The Design Clinician is a design-informed and experienced clinician who bridges this gap, ensuring that healthcare solutions are both functional and truly user-centric.Why do we need Design Clinicians? In design research, it's common for design teams to either inadequately interview end users or interview the wrong individuals—those who may not fully understand what information is crucial for designers. This miscommunication can lead to poor designs and ineffective healthcare solutions. The Design Clinician serves as a translator between clinicians and designers. By combining clinical expertise with a design-informed perspective, they ensure that designers receive the high-quality information they need. They also help clinicians accurately identify and prioritize the most relevant information to share with design teams.Don't continue developing healthcare products without a translator—integrate a Design Clinician into your process!*trademark pending===============#healthcaredesign #healthcareux #servicedesign #uxdesign #designthinking #clinicalinnovation #uxhealthcareeurope #healthcaretransformation #usercentricdesign
