Louisiana is a football state, but these numbers say the state can play a little baseball, too (3)

Yes, I know football is king in Louisiana.

But don't be fooled.

The baseball around here isn't too shabby either. Well, you learned that last year when LSU marched right on to Omaha and won the school's 7th national championship. Fast forward to Monday and take a glance at just how well the state of Louisiana fared when the NCAA announced its field of 64 for this year's tournament.

Six schools from Louisiana made the field: Grambling, LSU, Louisiana Tech, Nicholls, Tulane and the University of Louisiana. That ties for the most Louisiana schools to make it one season, equaling the 2020 season when LSU, Tulane, UL, UNO, McNeese and UL-Monroe all made it.

The only other state with more teams in this year’s tournament is North Carolina, which has 7 schools in it: Duke, East Carolina, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Wake Forest, UNC-Wilmington and High Point.

The following four states have four teams each, which ranks third behind North Carolina and Louisiana.

California: (UC-Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, Fresno State, San Diego)

Florida: (UCF, Stetson, Florida and Florida State)

New York: (St. John, Army, Niagara and LIU)

South Carolina: (Clemson, Coastal Carolina, Wofford and South Carolina)

Which of the 6 Louisiana schools has the most homegrown talent. That would be Louisiana Tech, which has 16 players from Louisiana on its roster. Nicholls and UL aren't far behind, with 15 each.

In addition to the six Louisiana schools, there are 6 more schools in the tournament that have a player on their roster who played high school baseball in the state of Louisiana. A complete list of every player (84 players in all) who played high school in Louisiana is listed below.

Which Louisiana high school has produced the most players in this year’s tournament? Catholic High leads the way with 7, followed by Barbe's 6. Ruston and St. Amant are right behind them with 5 players, while Holy Cross is next with 4.
